HAND SANITISER
You might have tried as I have to get hand sanitiser. I have even tried to get aloe vera gel to make my own. But no deal. Even the national distributors of aloe-vera gel that I deal with (in incredibly small quantities I must add) have totally sold out.
Hand sanitiser is a mix of a disinfectant, and a moisturising gel. I wondered if I could make it. Yes, it's easy. One third DETTOL (or the Coles/Chemist equivalent) disinfectant liquid, the kind you use on the skin, plus two thirds of moisturiser. This is the usual ratio people who made their own when a gel base was available used, and I have stuck with that. I used Nivea only because I had it. I mixed them in a jar. The ingredients in Dettol nullified the gel in the Nivea, but it still felt like a moisturiser and it smelt like Dettol. I have been using it, and I think it is better than no hand sanitiser.
If you wanted a gel, you could try making a gelatine base, and whisking the Dettol into that, but there is no guarantee that it would stay a gel. Mine, although not a glamour product (I could put a sparkly bow on it if it would make a difference for you) seems to work. Not that I can tell in the long term and it is not supposed to lull me (or you) into a false sense of security. But it smells like Dettol on the skin, and the moisturiser stops it from drying out the skin too much. I haven't noticed any dryness but you can alter the ratio. Don't got too far below the level of Dettol suggested as the whole idea is to kill germs on the surface of the skin....
This is not a substitute for hand washing, or any of the other safety measures in place. It is a replacement product for one you can't get, and I think it will be reasonably effective used within the guidelines.
