CBD FACE CREAMS
Thank goodness we are at last being validated. On Thursdays (my day off - today) I relax reading HELLO magazine over croissant and coffee at Chambers. Mostly its enjoyable "fluff", but today they had a two page spread on CBD in cosmetics. I have been encouraging my students to use the skin rejuvenating and cleansing oils we create. You can buy it elsewhere at way more cost of course. It's all about packaging.
As reported by HELLO, the global CBD skincare market will top $959m by 2024. In London, Boots sells a range on-line and in November Selfridges installed a popup CBD shop in its London store.
Studies show CBD is incredibly anti-inflammatory, full of anti-oxidants and has the ability to regulate sebum levels. It is also one of the only oils non-comedogenic which means it doesn't clog pores, making it particularly appealing to those prone to acne and black heads.
For myself, there isn't a day goes by when someone doesn't say to me "your skin is beautiful - how do you do it? what do you use". Well I don't use a regular proprietary brand, I add a smidgin of CBD to whichever I use (which is mainly the cleansing oil and serum I make), and it works.
There is another bonus. The cannabinoids in CBD (the chemical substances) are similar to the endocannabinoids produced by our own bodies, which means that that our cells recognise them and therefore they can heal the skin much quicker than you may have experienced in the past. Forget Laser re-surfacing! The result is stronger more resilient skin barrier that doesn't fall victim so easily to irritation, dryness and spots.
There is some confusion between HEMP OIL and CBD OIL. CBD is extracted from the seeds of the cannabis flower, HEMP Oil is extracted from the seeds. It is the flower that contains the cannabinoids. The Hemp oil, wonderful though it is as a moisturiser and antioxidant, it contains no cannabinoids. Indicators of how effective the product will be and how much CBD it contains is reflected in the price (as usual) CBD is a costly compound.
According to HELLO, "adverse reactions are rare. If you did have a reaction it would most probably be from an oil it was paired with. There are no contraindications and it works well with ingredients like retinol as it calms and heals irritation". I personally find it to be fantastic, and I am sure that there will be many ore CBD products on the market in years to come. Mists, masks, serums, and skin creams are all available right now - gradually brands are catching up. Mainly hemp retailers.
