THE FORAGING CLASS
What a fantastic day for a foraging class.
The weather was 'brisk" and there was loads of beautiful fruit, seeds and greens to be had. To stock -up I went to the mountain. There is a special place I have shared with the class (of course), and as usual it was like a market garden of herbs - evening primrose, the absolute best and brightest dock of every age even the tiny little furled leaves, various kinds of thistle, violet, plantago major and little plantago. Just amazing. People were walking past - probably going to the shops to stock up on flour, sugar or toilet paper...
Earlier I had added to my stock of acorns. My cider vinegar is bubbling along nicely, thanks to the "little mother" growing beautifully on top.
I am in the middle of concocting my own Olive Leaf extract (forget about paying $30 in Coles or chemist warehouse - I can make many for that amount of money). If you want some let me know.
In the picture (taken in class), you can see the kombucha mother in the plastic bag (everyone in class got one), Thai basil vinegar, quince paste, olive leaves waiting for the vodka, cheese in olive oil.
The greens in the front are Dock, the seeds are Evening Primrose. There were heaps more.
You should have been there, it was an inspiration. I will do a "ferment" workshop and make sauerkraut.
I have been given some wattle seed, so when you come to my house, wattle seed cookies will be on the menu!
